How Rook & Forge works

Read, write,
then go outside.

01 / Read

Move through one classic book with weekly prompts and discussion.

Mark passages, bring questions, and test your reading against what other members see.

02 / Write

Develop one finished reflection inspired by the season’s central question.

Use weekly assignments to clarify what you think, share work, and ask members for feedback.

03 / Outdoors

Complete simple field assignments that bring the book’s ideas into the physical world.

Walk, sit, ride, or spend an hour outdoors with one clear task and a notebook.

The core experience

Join fully
from anywhere.

The online member community is the center of every season. You can take part in the reading, writing, discussion, professor session, and field assignments even if no other member lives nearby.

Informal local gatherings are optional and member-led. Larger Rook & Forge experiences—such as a cabin trip near the Tetons or a swim and picnic at Barton Springs—happen each season in select cities.
